Dividend Assistant

A Portfolio Tool for Stock Investors to Track Their Income

About the Project

Dividend Assistant, owned by Mitre Media, is a portfolio tool that will allow stock investors to track their stock dividends and cash payout. Mitre Media found that it is difficult for investors to track how much income they are earning and when they will earn it. So we built a tool for users to link their brokerage accounts and view all stocks they own. With this tool, investors will be able to know how much income their portfolios will generate and when they will earn it.

My Role

I worked on this client project for two months with a Senior UX Designer at Athlon. I participated in analyzing user goals and requirements based on client materials, UX concepts explorations, and UI design. We worked with the Product Manager and the development team from Mitre Media in an agile method for rapid iterations.

Explore Problem Space

Mitre Media identified a potential business opportunity for stock investors to better track and manage the income they earn. They found that investors may have multiple brokerage accounts which made it difficult for them to calculate the total income they are earning and when they will earn it. To help the users, we had a workshop with the client to understand how the users currently track the income and why they want to do it. From discussion, we summarized the user goals as below.

As an investor, I want to...

  • Link a brokerage account so that the portfolio tool can reflect the stocks I currently own
  • Know how much income the portfolio will generate and when I will earn it so that I am confident my dividend income will cover my bills
